On Wednesday, one of five sisters, who had been members of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and staying in Ambabhikshu apartments in Kuruchikuppam, Hemalata Prasad, climbed up a water tank on the terrace of the multi-storey building if the police launched action to evict them.

C.P. Sajith, Sub-Inspector of Grand Bazaar police station on Wednesday posed as a media person and managed to climb up the terrace of the multi-storey Ambabhikshu apartments to reach one of the inmates who threatened to jump from the building and commit suicide.

As news spread, a large number of media persons and police personnel gathered in Ambabhikshu apartments. Police personnel from the Grand Bazaar police station along with Fire and Rescue Services personnel were seen reaching out to the sisters to dissuade Hemalata Prasad from jumping from the building. At one stage Sub-Inspector Sajith who was in plainclothes managed to reach the terrace.

Mr. Sajith could be seen holding a microphone as he approached Hemalata Prasad who was seated on the top of a water tank.

Hemalata started talking about their demands when the alert Sub-Inspector caught hold of her hands and managed to pull her to safety.
