PUDUCHERRY: A day after two of the five sisters evicted from Sri Aurobindo Ashram and their mother committed suicide by drowning in the sea, one of the surviving sisters on Friday alleged she was raped by two unidentified men on Thursday morning. The woman, her two sisters and their father were rescued by fishermen after they attempted suicide.

The five sisters hailing from Bihar were evicted from the ashram on Wednesday as per a Supreme Court order. On Thursday morning, they along with their parents went to Kalapet, a coastal village in Puducherry, and entered the sea in an attempt kill themselves. While two sisters and their mother drowned, three other sisters and their father were pulled out by fishermen. On Friday, one of the sisters filed a complaint with police saying she was raped by two unidentified men on Thursday morning. Police registered a case under IPC Section 376 (2) (g) (gang rape).

“We are trying to gather details from her. Earlier she said she was conscious when someone attacked her. But later she claimed she was not conscious. The medical examination report, however, did not suggest sexual assault. We are trying to ascertain the veracity of her claim,” said inspector K Varadharajan.
