Prasad sisters: Unfortunate turn of events that leave many unanswered questions

As the deadline of 16th December 2014 had passed for the Prasad sisters to vacate their habitations and leave the Ashram premises, in accordance to the directions of the Supreme Court of India, the Ashram community as well as its well-wishers were hopeful that their exit would be gracious and without any unnecessary events. Unfortunately this was not to be. It would seem that when the path of “Good Reason” was abandoned by the Prasad sisters years ago, there was no going back from them.

We present here self-explanatory news reports of the unfortunate turn of events unleashed by the Prasad sisters as they have attempted to leave behind their parting shot that was meant to cause as much harm as possible to the Ashram.

During the last few years, the court case initiated by the Prasad sisters more than a decade ago seemed to gain importance for the anti-Ashram elements who started relying heavily on the outcome of the sisters’ case in order to find fault with the Ashram authorities, at any cost. This became more and more evident as many of the other anti-Ashram initiatives were failing one after the other. All of a sudden, the Prasad sisters seemed to have found all the support that they needed to propel their case all the way to the Supreme Court. Not only was there a renewed sense of aggression in the camp of the Prasad sisters and their anti-Ashram comrades, but their armory seemed to have no limit as well. Literally out of the blue, the Prasad sisters had the country’s top most law firm defending their case and representing them in court. The sisters who all along claimed that they didn’t have any financial resources, not even to travel to Delhi to attend the court’s proceedings, had lawyers that cost thousand of dollars per hearing arguing for them. Simultaneously, the one-sided version of their stories featured prominently in magazines such as the Tehelka, drawing attention at the national level. Even some politicians with connections to the anti-Ashram elements, local and from afar, seemed to be interrsted to bat for the Prasad sisters. For the Prasad sisters it must have been like waking up one fine day after a long slumber and finding that they were on the verge of winning the lottery! Thus, despite the euphoria that they were fed for the last few years by those who were propping them up, when at last it became evident that no matter what they did, their case that was borne out of spite and personal vendetta, was doomed to fail, their elation must have taken a sharp u-turn and plummeted into the depths of desperation.

The numerous twists and turns of the case of the Prasad sisters thus conceal a lot of the answers that people must be asking themselves. For instance:

– Have those anti-Ashram elements who invested significant resources in the court case of the sisters, stepped forward to help and reassure the sisters to live a dignified life after the Supreme Court had no choice but to order the sisters to leave the Ashram?

– Were the sisters useful to the people who were supporting them only for as long as their court case had some utility for them?

– Who are these people who supported the five sisters for their court case against the Ashram, but who are faceless, nameless and apparently heartless enough to have not done the needful to dissuade the sisters from the taking some of the most unreasonable steps?

– In their warning and threat to commit suicide, the Prasad sisters had clearly spelled out their intention to cause as much harm as possible to the Ashram. The sisters had threatened: “We are also going to leave suicide notes naming all of you [trustees of the Ashram] and many others concerned, all of whom are responsible for constraining us to end our lives. Our suicide notes will cause adverse repercussions on the Ashram community as a whole and most specifically on all the persons named therein.” The proposed suicide of the sisters, with the intention to cause damage to the Ashram would have suited the anti-Ashram elements who had supported the sisters’ attack against the Ashram. Could the sisters have been directly or indirectly encouraged to take their extreme, suicidal step?

These are some the most obvious questions that are being asked and we are certain that many more questions will emerge.

    You write that the sisters “had lawyers that cost thousand of dollars per hearing”. Are you an Indian ? Why are you speaking of dollars when the lawyers are getting paid in rupees ?

    Were the Prasad sisters good at English ? Their suicide note seems to indicate so.

      This website is read by people from all over the world. Not everybody understands what lakhs/lacs of rupees mean. But everybody understands the value of the dollar. Moreover, we don’t really know who is paying the lawyers of the Prasad sisters and in which currency they are being paid. All we know is that the lawyers of the Prasad sisters are the top most law firm in India and that their fees in US dollars would make many American law firms envious.

      We have no means to ascertain the proficiency and level of the Prasad sisters’ knowledge of the English language. The blog that bears their name contains content that is written in a fairly good English, just like their suicide note. We are inclined to believe that given their educational record as well as the lack of any previous known records of their writings, the content posted on their blog is in all probability created with the help of some persons(s) who are conversant not only with the written form of English but also with the legal jargon.

    To use one’s life and the threat of suicide to harm the life of others is one of the worst forms of terrorism. The attempt to commit suicide (which was in part successful as well as a failure) designed to cause harm to the Ashram and some of its inmates, has very little difference from the cowardly acts of terrorism inflicted by suicidal extremists. Despite the tragedy and personal loss for those committing such irresponsible and ruthless acts, such a behaviour cannot be condoned or justified.

    Such an act of ‘terrorism’ against the Ashram assumes an even larger dimension as any attack against the Ashram constitutes an attack against the work of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. To be willing to use one’s life to cause injury to Their work only shows to what extent the attackers were possessed by forces that were willing to destroy everything.

    Whether the sisters have made themselves willing instruments of such destructive forces or whether they were lured into such a situation is something that should be known.

  3. In Mother’s Agenda, there is a particular incident.

    Satprem reported to the Mother that his dear friend, a seeker, a thinker and writer – a highly cultivated man – who lived in France has committed suicide and that he was distressed. Mother told Satprem some interesting things, even her “good” experiences of the man and added, “…but his vital being liked the drama.”

    This explains the drama of the Prasad family.

    According to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, the impulse to take once own life is one of the ignorant movements of the human nature which has been formed from the subconscience and inconscience stuff which are the base of our outer personalities. The principle of the subconscience and inconscience is darkness – refusal to light, to all things glad, pure and divine, to perpetuate the small human drama and suffering and joy in suffering.

    Mother’s reply to those who wanted to die was, “Die to your ego”. But this is difficult. It is infinitely easier to die following the vital impulse to kill oneself and take subtle (vital) delight in the act.

    From this perspective, Prasad family is constituted of very ordinary, very low level of consciousness. They are the followers of heartless invisible vital creatures. There is no question of psychic or higher consciousness here.

    There is also no question that at the moment the vital beings of anti-Ashram elements must be basking in seventh heaven behind their apparent mask of sorrow and crusading for truth and justice. This is also the golden opportunity for vital forces to incite emotions in local youth and activists and of course politicians.

    We must remember what Nolinida wrote: Just as India has become symbolic representation of the all the difficulties of mankind, similarly in India, the Ashram has become symbolic representation of the difficulties of India. This explains everything.

    As the wisdom goes, “This too will pass”. Everything will pass and EVERYTHING SHOULD PASS till pure ray of the sunlight (Truth light) settles in human nature. That will not pass.
