Ashram supporters slam Puducherry MLA’s remark on Madras high court order

Nov. 6, 2013

PUDUCHERRY: A forum formed to protect Sri Aurobindo Ashram and its well-wishers condemned the remarks made by ruling party MLA Ashok Anand on a Madras high court order on the constitution of an inquiry committee to probe into a series of allegations against the ashram trust.

Well-wishers of Sri Aurobindo Ashram president G S Ashok Adhithyan said All India NR Congress MLA Ashok Anand in a statement issued on October 26 termed the order of the Madras high court that restricted the inquiry to only inmates and former inmates as a ‘shocking development.’ Anand said the order denied the fundamental right of the Puducherry public.

“The press release on October 26 of the said MLA is a brazen interference in the due process of Law. In fact, he has defiantly referred to the order passed by the honorable high court of Madras as a shocking development. Thereby he has deliberately lowered the majesty of the court,” Adhithyan said.

He further pointed out that the MLA came out in open defiance against the order that categorically stated that ‘since the ruling party legislator himself has preferred a complaint, the participation of the state in the inquiry should be only to assist the inquiry officer’.

Adhithyan said the MLA publicly criticized the said order and had even sought to participate in the inquiry, which is restricted to the inmates and former inmates.

The forum said some elements, hostile to the ashram, in league with the MLA, had sought an inquiry by the Puducherry collector into the internal affairs of the ashram even though the scope of such inquiry did not fall within the collector’s jurisdiction. “These persons sought to re-agitate on issues that have either been decided or are being decided by the competent courts,” he said.

The forum condemned the alleged attempts of the MLA to influence the outcome of the inquiry by defying the court order.
