Scabs Beneath the Serenity – V

August 26, 2013

We continue to present the information that was available to Imran Khan, reporter of the TEHELKA magazine and online news portal, before he wrote his story on the Sri Aurobindo Ashram titled ‘Scabs Beneath the Serenity, Scandal in the Ashram.‘ In our previous posts we had presented information on the case of the Prasad sistersthe case of Debaki Routthe case of Patit Paban Ghosh and Bailochan Parida. In this post we continue looking at some of the allegations of harassment and irregularities that Imran Khan chose to report in his article.

Information available about Dr. Gayatri Satapathy in the public domain that Imran Khan chose to ignore:

The CHOLA-TLOSA website of Raman Reddy, Sraddhalu Ranade, R.Y. Deshpande and other anti-Ashram elements was the first to announce the reasons behind Dr. Gayatri Satapathy’s resignation from the Ashram Nursing Home. On their website it was reported that:

Dr. Gayatri Resigns from the Ashram Nursing Home

Although Dr. Gayatri resigned on the grounds of ill-health, it is obvious why she resigned from the Nursing Home. She had dared to be frank and outspoken on the issue of Peter Heehs and had condemned his book without any fear of retribution from her superior, Dr Dilip Datta, chief of the Ashram medical services and one of the decision-makers in the board of Trustees of Sri Aurobindo Ashram…”

An authentic, complete copy of this report is reproduced here:

Dr. Gayatri resigns from the Ashram Nursing Home

According to Raman Reddy, Sraddhalu Ranade, R.Y. Deshpande and other anti-Ashram elements who are in close touch with Dr. Gayatri Satapathy, the REAL reason for her resignation in March 2012 was not for ill-health but because of personal differences that she had regarding the issue of Peter Heehs’ book. Dr. Gayatri Satapathy must be used to telling lies to the trustees of the Ashram if she told them that she was resigning due to ill-health instead of telling the truth that she was resigning because she had personal differences which upset her.

What is even more astounding is that about a year later Dr. Gayatri Satapathy is now reporting a different version to Imran Khan. In the TEHELKA he reports:

“Dr Gayatri Satapathy, who joined the ashram’s medical services as a general practitioner in September 1999, says that when she noticed serious embezzlement in the nursing home accounts, she was shunted out of the department by its head Dilip Kumar Dutta, who is also a trustee.”

A photo of a sickly looking Dr. Gayatri Satapathy accompanies the statement. The photo bears the caption: “Victimised? Dr Gayatri Satapathy was shunted out of the medical department”

First, it is reported that Dr. Gayatri Satapathy resigns on the grounds of ill-health. Later, her close anti-Ashram associates reveal that she had in reality resigned because of personal differences regarding the issue of Peter Heehs’ book. A year later Dr. Gayatri Satapathy’s voluntary  resignation is forgotten and she is said to have been “shunted out”! Additionally, the issue is no more ill-health, or personal differences regarding Peter Heehs’ book, but this time it is because “she noticed serious embezzlement in the nursing home accounts.”

We advise our readers to wait for another year to hear what else Dr. Gayatri Satapathy and her supporters will come up with.

  1. Dear Dr Gayatri

wanted to share one case of gross negligence and violation of medical ethics from you in the recent past and am sharing this only because as a matter of adherence to sacredness of work and discipline in Ashram

1.A few months back , you went to treat X (after you were called)whom you were taking care for many years on getting to know that X was having angina.
    2. you were to meet X in 15 minutes but came after 30 minutes when X was in acute agony
    3. Then yo looked at X , did ECG on her for a few minutes , became restless and nervous and wrote something in a piece of paper and mentioned that she be shifted to hospital .
    4. Then abruptly you left in a nervous state before Dr Dilip Dutta could arrive . ,Dr Dutta came in few minutes and diagnosed X as having Angina and then quietly did the tests, treatment with a calm frame of mind and provided relief. He spent a critical and a crucial one hour to get the situation under control

My question is why did you leave X in a helpless state and run away . X by the way had served The Mother directly and is associated with Ashram since the 60s .But for Grace the situation could have gone the other way . I am a witness to this whole thing and was shocked by this unprofessional and unethical practice of yours .

when you are tasked to saving people , you seem to have taken charge of providing danger and am questioning your moral integrity in this.

A patient is a patient and has nothing to do with the politics . You had failed terribly in this instance .
