A Public Notice: Attempt by vested interests to take control of Sri Aurobindo Ashram

August 3, 2013

A group of people, also calling themselves ‘Well-wishers of Sri Aurobindo Ashram’ have published a public notice in some of the leading newspapers of India. We welcome this group of well-wishers and their initiative to expose the vested interests that Sraddhalu Ranade, Raman Reddy, R.Y. Deshpande & Co are encouraging as well as supporting.

Attempt by vested interests to take control of Sri Aurobindo Ashram

The Well-Wishers of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, consisting of long-standing devotees in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, India and abroad, would like to inform the public that over the past several months some vested interests (a handful of disgruntled inmates supported by outsiders) are trying to seize control of Sri Aurobindo Ashram by launching a vicious and malafide campaign against it. These vested interests have adopted various dubious means to achieve their goal, such as pasting unlawful posters across the town, spreading vulgar lies against the office bearers of the Ashram, and trying to whip up negative public sentiments through misinformation.

We condemn and oppose these actions and would like to inform the public that:

  1. These vested interests first created a controversy over a book on the life of Sri Aurobindo. When they failed to force the Ashram to take a fundamentalist stand, they resorted to spreading malicious allegations against the office bearers of the Ashram.
  2. They also filed various cases in the Courts against the Trust and inmates of the Ashram.
  3. Not getting relief from the Courts, these vested interests approached the Collector with issues that were already adjudicated and dismissed by lower and higher courts, or which are currently being adjudicated.
  4. In the past, similar allegations were made against the Ashram. Official enquiries which probed into these allegations found them to be false.
  5. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor has already ordered an investigation into the issue of illegal, malicious and defamatory posters and punish the perpetrators.

It is our firm belief that these vested interests are trying to take control of the Ashram for their personal gain. We strongly condemn such selfish motives and actions and extend our full support to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and its office bearers.
