Affirmative, pot-boiler lies that are loosing their steam

June 15, 2013

If Sraddhalu Ranade was thinking that his affirmative  pot-boiling lies that he delivered at Ahmedabad would provide him the required steam to carry forward his and his associates’ anti-Ashram activities, he was certainly mistaken. Because one after the other, Sraddhalu Ranade’s lies are bursting right on his face. Here is another expose that we have received which deflates his blatant lie and not only proves him utterly wrong, but reveals the extent to which he is willing to go in his attempts to defame and malign certain individuals of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

In his talk at Ahmedabad Sraddhalu Ranade says the following:

(Recorded time: Shortly after 2 hours, 16 minutes, 40 seconds. Transcript of talk: Page 31.)

“Another example, because it is obvious it not a mistake. Dining Room boilers, they decided it is old , it has to be replaced. I don’t know whether if it was worthy of replacement, but they took a decision. The person in the dining room who was the engineer he was in touch with Manoj Das Gupta directly. They went through various quotations, various specifications, narrowed down, negotiated, used their friends influences to bring down the cost until the full cost was 50 lakhs for 2 boilers. Each step he checked with Manoj Das Gupta and got it approved by Manoj Das Gupta, got his signature, it was signed, approved. Last step now, they are going to place the order and the invoice is given for the order placement, Manoj Das Gupta hands it over to Matri Prasad, his right hand man who does all this mischief. Matri Prasad sets aside this company, went to another company which gave the same equipment, same specifications for 1 crore. 50 lakhs diversion in kickback, that’s what it is ….so this engineer was in shock, he went to Manoj Das Gupta and said what are you doing? We discussed all this, why are you doing this? Manoj Das Gupta said no you talk to MatriPrasad I don’t know. 4 times again and again he went, you approved it, I don’t want to talk to anyone else, and you approved it, why have you changed the order now to double the price. He refused to answer. Finally this engineer said I don’t want to be party to a falsehood here, I will not be responsible for this and he resigned from his position… These you are, its obvious that what they are doing is not a small error, it is deliberate intention to misdirect funds.”

Sraddhalu Ranade’s allegation:

Matriprasad inflated the cost of purchase of boilers for the dining room and got a kickback of about Rs. 50 lakhs. Manoj Das Gupta did nothing to prevent it. This is how funds are deliberately misdirected in the Ashram.

What are the facts:

Matriprasad has provided credible and verifiable facts on this issue with a statement that is reproduced further below. The specific information has been summarized here (anyone can go and verify the facts for themselves at the Ashram Dining Hall):

1)      Surprise, surprise, no new boilers were ever bought by the Ashram for the Dining Room. There is therefore no question of anyone having received kickbacks from inflated invoices or of any misdirection of funds.

2)      The events were as follows: In the year 2008-2009 one of the persons working on the boilers (call him an engineer, if you like) reported that one part of the boilers had failed near about the time of Darshan. So he wanted to replace the two boilers with new ones and each having a capacity of 900 to 1000 kg per hour. His argument was that none of the existing boilers could singly take the total load of the steam required. Hence it was thought that it was needed to change both the boilers so that one of them could be subjected to repair and maintenance whenever required without disturbing the on-going work. The quotations for the two boilers were indeed obtained by this person. The exact value for the proposed purchase price is in the vicinity of the amount reported, about Rs. 50 lakhs or so. Please note that it is the person working on the boilers who proposed to purchase new boilers.

3)      It is at this point that it was decided to critically review the merits of the opinion of the person who had suggested that the boilers be replaced.

4)      It was found that actually the problem was not with the boilers, but with the burner nozzles which were undersized. Accordingly, the burner nozzles were replaced. The price of one burner nozzle? Rs. 1,000 each. The total amount spent for two nozzles? Rs. 2,000!

5)      Of course, only four humble zeros separate this fact from the one crore fiction that Sraddhalu Ranade is alleging, but perhaps that does not bother him too much, being zeros only.

6)      With the replacement of the nozzles of the appropriate size each of the existing boilers is now capable of individually supplying the total steam requirement for the entire cooking in the Dining Room. Previously one boiler could take care of only 3 ‘handas’ while after the burner-nozzle correction, each of the same ‘old’ boilers can now supply adequate quantity of steam to feed 9 ‘handas’.

7)      Because the pipes taking the steam from the boilers to the ‘handas’ were clogged, some pipes were either replaced or de-scaled. At what cost this was done is beside the point at this juncture as it has nothing to do with the alleged purchase of boilers.

8)      Please go to the Dining Room (at a time when it doesn’t disturb them) and anyone can see that there are 2 boilers there with the nameplate showing the year 2000 as the year of manufacture. They had been installed in the year 2000-2001 or so. Each of these boilers has a capacity of 600 kg of steam per hour. As on date they are giving very satisfactory performance.

Concluding remarks:

Sraddhalu Ranade is alleging that Matriprasad with the connivance of Manoj Das Gupta embezzled Rs 50 lakh as kickbacks. Whereas the truth is that Matriprasad and Manoj Das Gupta saved the Ashram Rs. 49.98 lakh!!! No new boilers were bought, no kickbacks could have ever been taken and funds were never misdirected.

Some open questions to Sraddhalu:

–          Can Sraddhalu openly explain on what credible, authentic basis he has made these serious charges and allegations against the Ashram and some of its members?

–          If Sraddhalu cannot prove that his allegations are right, will he in the meanwhile openly apologize to Matriprasad, Manoj Das Gupta and especially all those people who have attended his talks and were misled against the Ashram, even made to act against the Ashram?

Matriprasad’s complete statement from which the information is presented is reproduced here.
