Letters to Trustees from some “Study Centers”

November 17, 2012

Some time ago, between the Letter to the Trustees from Ahmedabad Center and alas one more, Fifth Letter of the Bengaluru Study Circle to the Trustees of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, another letter was also sent to the Trustees of the Ashram, a copy of which landed up in our mailbox. This letter to the Trustees which we found to be as absurd as all the other letters seen so far, also originating from some obscure, insignificant “study center” was however never published on the internet. As this letter is unique and for a change funny, we thought that it would help our readers brace themselves to face the next barrage of senseless letters that the unemployed members of these study centers keep producing and sending to the Ashram. While it is obvious that Raman Reddy, Sraddhalu Ranade and his team are instigating these centers to send such nonsensical letters to the Ashram, we are equally certain – for obvious reasons – that Sraddhalu Ranade and his team had little to do with the letter that we choose to publish here.

The authors of this unique letter have also provided an audio/video version of their letter. Duration about 8 minutes.

The original PDF copy of the letter can be viewed here.

Letter to the Trustees from the Devotees and Disciples of Sri Aurobindo in Gujarat

OM ANANDAMAYEE CHAITANYAMAYEE SATYAMAYEE PARAME

To,
The Managing Trustee,
Sri Aurobindo Ashram,
Puducherry 605002.

We, the children of Mother India make to you the following appeal when Mother India is being outraged and we enjoy the mayhem without lifting a finger. Inspired by the writings, books, lectures, visions of Sri Aurobindo, The Mother, and Swami Ranadananda-bhai, we feel blessed stumbling on the path of a Divine Life the latter has shown us. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother have given a new perspective to the ages old Indian spirituality, have given a new insight to it which is totally beyond our vision. In the most Gracious Almighty’s Endeavour of evolution, our Guru gave up on some of us and has offered his life. For the Awakening of mankind, for its progress, Sri Aurobindo has constantly been waging an inner war, has endured all pains including those in the neck like us. Salutations to our Gurudev! It is known that Sri Aurobindo has written that none can write about His life because it is not something to see on the surface level note to self to delete: he himself extensively edited a biography of himself by Iyengar. A large number of Sri Aurobindo’s devotees but not all, who are spread and travel around the world, lecture on Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, adore and pray to them for wealth and fame and feel stressed by their Grace.

Peter Heehs, an American citizen, who has been working in the archives of Sri Aurobindo Ashram has written a book “The Lives of Sri Aurobindo” and has got it published from America, in case you did not know. In this book, as we understand it based on our limited capacity for comprehension, the details pertaining to the life of Sri Aurobindo are presented in a very objective manner which seem disgusting when twisted and quoted out of context. How dare anyone steal our Swamiji’s sole privilege to quote out of context! We are deeply disturbed by his factual presentations of our hallowed Lord. An inflicted physical injury can be seen unless covered by a beard, and eventually heals, but an insult to the kernel of our faith and religion as proselytized by us, has profoundly pained us. When the trustees of Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust say they have nothing to do with this controversial book or stay silent on the historically documented bare facts, ratifying them, we the undersigned are extremely hurt. When the Lord in His own spiritual Temple is desecrated by the self-appointed Temple priest himself, then what to say of the condition of the priest’s devotees?! In this situation, considering our feelings, the following actions could be initiated:

1. The author of the book The Lives of Sri Aurobindo, Peter Heehs, be removed from the services of the Archives (please reinstate him and re-fire him in order to achieve this) as well as from the Ashram as well as from the world. Hint: please read the story by Dr. Alok Pandey about the mole and the death-wish.

2. The Trust, should publicly oppose the controversial extracts from the book which have hurt the sentiments of devotees of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Though it is sufficient to read the extracts in their full context to assuage the hurt, our English is not fine enough for that.

3. The Trust, which has merely stated that it does not approve nor disapprove of the book as it is none of its business in any way, must only not approve of the book.

4. One man’s “freedom of speech” which hurts the feelings of (those of us whose brain) lacs and, of our lackeys, cannot be tolerated.

5. The precious manuscripts, scripts, entirely published and unpublished literature of the Archives, already in the absolute safe custody of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust, should be kept in the absolute safe custody of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust and/or another trustworthy institution to safe guard the genuineness of this valuable heritage, such as Sri Aurobindo Society, SACAR, or Dipti Trust.

We appeal to you to please kindly consider our above ultimatums to give some healing touch to the wounded hearts and hides of fellow and bu-fellow devotees respectively. May The Mother and Sri Aurobindo bestow wisdom on us all but especially on us the authors of this letter. We are, wherever we may be (in order of probability)—shops, share bazaars, offices, homes, factories, libraries, ashrams…

(SEE OUR BACK SIDE OF LETTER)

P.S. We are keeping Gujarati original letter with us only as you will not understand it. Please play audio file in enclosed CD for best and authentic atmosphere.

    from the letter:

“In this book, as we understand it based on our limited capacity for comprehension,”

I’d say the above line pretty much sums up the intellectual capacities of the authors
