A Dialogue: 4

July 26, 2012

We had initiated a dialogue (A Dialogue: 1, 2 & 3) with H. Acharya with the hope that he would be able to explain and convince our readers the basis for which he was upset with the Ashram and some of its members. He made certain accusations against the Ashram and its members, but when asked to explain the reasons for which he was making those accusations he did not come back with any answer. Someone (BK Karan) commenting on this blog suggested that it was beyond H. Acharya’s dignity to respond to such questions.

We are not in a position to determine whether H. Acharya will continue the dialogue which had begun or not, but in the meanwhile, RK Mohanty has been making several comments that are similar to the ones that H. Acharya was making. Although RK Mohanty is expressing some reluctance to answer the questions that are being asked to him by some of our readers, at least he is maintaining a dialogue.

Therefore we are inviting RK Mohanty to continue the dialogue, share his views and make us understand the reasons for which he is making certain accusations. We reproduce his latest comment and open up the dialogue with him.

Dear Rajeev/Pradeep etc etc….I dont feel like answering your so called simple pertinent questions. If you have any feelings in yourself, then answer my simple Question – IF SOMEONE OFFENDS, HUMILIATES, MALIGNS YOUR OWN FATHER/MOTHER, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Dear RK Mohanty,

We regret that you do not feel like answering some of the simple and pertinent questions that some of our readers have asked you. Because we believe that your answers would have allowed our readers go a long way to understand your points of view. Maybe you will now change your mind.

Regarding your simple question, the obvious answer is that anybody would mind if their parents (father/mother) are offended, humiliated, maligned. We and our readers are human beings with feelings and can empathize with someone when he/she is hurt.

But the question is how do you decide whether somebody’s parents have been insulted? There should be some proof, isn’t it? For instance, if a passer-by on the road were to look at Mr. A’s parents and smile at them while crossing them, Mr. A could think: a) these are nice, cordial passers-by, b) these passers-by are making fun of the parents, c) whatever else. Depending on whether Mr. A thought of a, b or c, Mr. A could be happy, offended or whatever. But can Mr. A jump to the conclusion and decide what the intentions of the passers-by were?

Similarly, with regards to Peter Heehs’ book, some of you say that he has insulted Sri Aurobindo in his book. However, many of those who have read the book did not find that Peter insulted Sri Aurobindo. On the contrary many felt that Peter actually praised Sri Aurobindo. So how do you decide whether Peter Heehs offended, humiliated or maligned Sri Aurobindo? There should be some proof, especially proof that is unquestionable. Are you in a position to provide such proof?

    Dear Sriman Mohanty,

You ask IF SOMEONE OFFENDS, HUMILIATES, MALIGNS YOUR OWN FATHER/MOTHER, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Well, first I will use my brains : decide on solid grounds whether truly , actually, factually, anyone has, as you say offended , humiliated, maligned my father or mother or whether the offence exists only in the putrid fermentation of my own mind!!

I hope the previous sentence is not too difficult for you to follow. Because so far you seem to be incapable of understanding this simple truth.

Try, try, make some effort , you will succeed eventually. Do not give up.

    Yours fraternally

    Dear R.K.Mohanty

I’m willing to join you in your campaign against Peter Heehs if you can convince me that he has in fact raised doubts about Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual experiences as this is an extremely serious allegation.

But going by what you have written till now there is no way any reasonable person would be convinced. All that you have been attempting to do is to incite irrational emotional reactions by raising irrelevant questions. If you are unable to provide evidence it is always wiser to remain silent.

      The idea of Silence !!!!

That is an activity (or lack of it ) that never crossed the mind (or lack of it) of some persons who blare out to the world that they on the way to the Supermind.

Why is it that “scholars” such as Deshpande, Alok Pandey, Sradhalu, Ranganath, etc., who are so active on their website thelivesofsriaurobindo.com, so keen to share their points of views, to promote their arguments, do not come to the rescue of RK Mohanty and H Acharya and help them continue the dialogue on this blog? Are they really just not interested in any dialogues? Is it that they just want to push their narrow, limited personal agendas and force their preferences on everyone else, no matter what, even if they are wrong? They block off and censor all comments which challenge their views on their own blog. Are they really such cowards? They make a lot of noise in the safety of their own little backyard. But when someone genuinely questions them, they send their foot soldiers on the front lines. When the foot soldiers are failing, where are the mighty and brave generals? Do they also hide and disappear? What a shame!
