Top Law Firm behind the ‘Poor’, Five Prasad Sisters

June 12, 2014

The five Prasad sisters would like that everyone should blindly believe that they are ‘poor’, helpless victims of harassment, including that of a sexual nature, while the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Trust and its members are their evil and unjust tormentors. Without going into the merits of their case, there are several pointers that indicate that the five Prasad sisters might not be such ‘poor’ and helpless victims after all. On the contrary, their actions against the Ashram show that they are the relentless aggressors who are out to go to any extent and at any costs to repeatedly create trouble and harm to the Ashram, because they failed to have it their way.

The recent order passed by the Supreme Court which we have downloaded from the internet reveals that the five ‘poor’ Prasad sisters are rather surprisingly in the position to hire none other than the country’s topmost law firm to represent them in the Supreme Court. Suresh A Shroff & Co of the law firm ‘Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co‘  is the legal counsel for the ‘poor’ five Prasad sisters. It so happens that these ‘poor’ sisters are now in the company of equally ‘poor’ multinational corporations which include Vedanta ResourcesReliance IndustriesGMR Group and Morgan Stanley all of which are clients of the same law firm. The ‘poor’, helpless, Prasad sisters, it would seem have what it requires to engage the country’s topmost and therefore most expensive law firm to try to establish, by using some loophole or the other, that the Ashram is at fault; very much like the largest and most greedy corporations hire the topmost law firms that have the maximum muscle and wherewithal to ‘use’ the law and its many loopholes to maximize and bloat their profits, at any costs, even if it results in injustice.

Is it a wonder then that the five Prasad sisters have earned great sympathy from the likes of Raman Reddy, Sraddhalu Ranade, R.Y. Deshpande and a host of other anti-Ashram elements who also seem to have all the necessary resources to keep unleashing a barrage of attacks against the Ashram with the hope of finding one loose chink in the armor that has forever been guarding the Ashram against all hostile attacks from its very beginning? What is even more striking is that these hostile elements not only drag the Ashram to the courts for disputes that are purely personal and frivolous, but having taken the Ashram to court they subsequently also accuse it of wasting its money on court cases in which the Ashram finds itself compelled to fight against the country’s top law firms! Such ludicrous propositions can only originate from this bunch of pathetic, chronic and trouble-making perverts.

But unlike the “poor” five sisters who are represented by the topmost law firm of Suresh A Shroff & Co., the Ashram however appears to be satisfied by the modest, humble yet honest and sincere services of a lawyer who is known for his keen commitment towards justice and fairness, for which he lands up working pro-bono most of the time. This is the senior Supreme Court lawyer Sanjay Parikh who is known to represent the true victims of our present-day, unjust society. His clients include the underprivileged and marginalized forest-dwellers of the famous, pristine and sacred Niyamgiri hills who are fighting corporate giants such as Vedanta Resources (also represented by Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co!) to protect and safeguard their livelihoods which are dependent on the environment that they also wish to save. Mr. Sanjay Parikh has also made significant legal contributions in several other socially important areas ranging from fighting criminality, toxic pollution and the unscientific policies pertaining to the indiscriminate use of genetically modified organisms that are promoted by greedy, unscrupulous corporations. In other words, injustice of any kind appears to motivate Mr. Sanjay Parikh to seek justice, even if at the end of the day he may not be remunerated. This is the person who also represents the Ashram in the Supreme Court of India.

To be fair to the firm ‘Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’ they proudly list out the services that they have offered pro-bono, presumably as an act of corporate social responsibility. The firm states that “one of the firm’s proudest pro bono achievements of 2013 was providing expert consultation to the Justice Verma Committee, which was appointed to recommend amendments to the criminal laws on rape. At least 70 of the firm’s lawyers dedicated more than 40 hours to studying the existing law and suggesting changes. The firm submitted an 80-plus page report to the Justice Verma Committee and some of the suggestions were integrated in the final recommendation of the committee…” Significantly, the firm also states that “it has recently begun setting up a committee to ensure prevention and redress of sexual harassment, as required under the new Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013. In addition, the senior management team has initiated consultations to seek input from employees on how best to guarantee women’s safety and avoid sexual harassment.” One may give the firm the benefit of doubt for their charitable intentions despite the fact that their choice to take up the case of the five Prasad sisters seems to strike a discordant note with their stated objectives.

Whether the five Prasad sisters are receiving pro-bono services from ‘Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’ or not, the case of these five, trouble-making sisters must be certainly taking its toll, both on the sisters as well as their famous law firm. The Supreme Court’s recent order to the five Prasad sisters to not only pack up and go, but to be sternly warned to go quietly without making more trouble than they already have, is casting a shadow and many doubts on the bona fide of the five sisters and their counsel. How is it that in a socially charged climate that is extremely sensitive to issues of sexual harassment, can the country’s topmost law firm loose a case in which five women, the five Prasad siblings, allege to have been harassed, even sexually, for more than a decade?!!

Many more questions beckon, some of which are:

Did the counsel of the five Prasad sisters from ‘Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’ fail in their homework?

If the firm ‘Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co’ are seriously committed to ensuring prevention and redress of sexual harassment (other than paying lip service to a cause that has become fashionable among the middle-class to whom they cater) and are ready to offer pro-bono services towards such a cause, why should they pick up a case that is rife with dubious antecedents? One may recall that the National Commission for Women and other authorities had already found the charges leveled by the five Prasad sisters to be false.

Or do the five Prasad sisters or their interested sponsor(s) have pockets that are deep enough, as well as interests in the Ashram’s affairs that are high enough, to attempt any legal victory against the Ashram even by using a case that is as weak as the one of the five sisters, in the absence of any other charges that could be levelled against the Ashram?

The information in this article is very revealing and gives a good hint about which powers are at play against the Ashram. In this regard, there is one large corporate entity called Indiabulls, that is interested in the real estate business, that is also widely known to be closely associated with Sraddhalu, Deshpande and other people involved in attacking the Ashram. I searched if there was any connection between the Indiabulls company and the top law firm Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. Surprise, surprise, Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. are the lawyers of the Indiabulls company.

Are the dots between the five Prasad sisters, the top law firm Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Indiabulls, Sraddhalu, Deshpande and Co. starting to get joined now?

The dots between all of these players are most certainly joining.
There is an absolutely unequivocal connection between Indiabulls, Nerandra Gehlaut, the Savitri Foundation, Deshpande & co the five Prasad sisters.

It is not too difficult to see the connection between all of these players and India’s top law firm that is representing the five Prasad sisters in court.

In the same way, another connection between Narendra Gehlaut and Deshpane via the Savitri Foundation is the following proof:

This disclosure of Jyoti Mirdha’s connection, wife of Narendra Gehlaut and an MP in the previous Lok Sabha, also now provides a “political” connection between all the “players”.

  2. Vijay permalink

It is now common knowledge in the Ashram that Narendra Gehlaut, the Managing Director of the corporate Indiabulls Real Estate (http://realestate.indiabulls.com/about-us.php?pageid=5) is closely associated to Deshpande, Shraddhalu and their clan.

The newly established Savitri Foundation which provides refuge to many of the ‘anti-Ashram elements’ and provides ’employment’ to quite a few people who create trouble for the Ashram is sponsored by Narendra Gehlaut. The Savitri Foundation looks like Deshpande’s pet project designed to make him and the Foundation the highest authority on Savitri so that, like the almighty priests, they can then rule the Aurobindo community. What the Ashram rightly denied him all these years, he is now trying to establish with the help of money power and personal ambition, his as well as that of others.

Anyone can see the series of the most worthless discussions on Savitri between Deshpande and Narendra Gehlaut on youtube. Here is a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FjvzlOZoic

The post by Deshpande on the following link shows that money can buy you Deshpande’s appreciation and loyalty (see penultimate paragraph):
    http://savitri.in/blogs/light-of-supreme/posts/sonnet-like-passages-in-savitri-introduction

There is absolutely no doubt that Narendra Gehlaut is part of the Deshpande, Sraddhalu anti-Ashram equation.

Seeing the video, it looks like Narendra Gehlot has fallen in the wrong hands. He must be totally blinded by Deshpande’s distorting propaganda. He is not the first one to have got duped. Unfortunately not the last one either. Sooner or later he will realize his blunder.

      • Rajeev permalink

Dear Sandeepan, you are being too kind to Narendra Gehlaut. He has the choice to choose whom to trust. Instead of choosing the most respectable and responsible institution of the Sri Aurobino Ashram he chooses to trust the most unrespected and irresponsible RY Deshpande. Birds of a feather flock together.

It is interesting that Jyoti Mirdha’s name is cropping up in this discussion. As the wife of Narendra Gehlaut she has played an active role in orchestrating attacks against the Sri Aurobindo Ashram along with Sraddhalu, Deshpande and company.

Noted journalist Rambahadur Rai had exposed Jyoti Mirdha’s close, active links with this affair. In his well researched article he writes:
“The Board of Trustees receives a letter written on 5th May by a Lok Sabha MP, Jyoti Mirdha, representing Nagaur in Rajasthan. Then a second letter, written on 22nd May and similar to the one of 5th May, is addressed to the Board of Trustees. Both these letters are given to the Board of Trustees via Manoj Das Gupta, the Managing Trustee. The second letter has 67 signatures. Most of these signatures have also the division number written on the side. The second letter also has Jyoti Mirdha’s signature. Both the letters look amazingly alike. Not a word is different nor any new questions have been added. The first three paragraphs are the same and then the 7 bulleted points for which clarification is sought. It is clear that the letter has been drafted somewhere else. Both the letters are identical. Isn’t it bewildering then that the paper on which the Members of Parliament have affixed their signature does not contain a single word that has emanated from them, except their signature?”

What does Jyoti Mirdha gain by attacking the trustees of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram? What is in it for her, her husband and their real estate company?

    • Rakesh R. permalink

Jyoti Mirdha is a double-faced operator. On the one hand she poses as an admirer of Sri Aurobindo, using one of his quotations from the poem Savitri on her twitter, facebook and social media profiles. On the other hand she is engaged in desecrating Sri Aurobindo’s home, ashram and abode on this earth by joining hands with people like Deshpande, Sraddhalu Ranade, Alok Pandey, the Prasad sisters, etc., etc., who only want to destroy Sri Aurobindo’s ashram and who are damaging His reputation merely for their petty, personal interests. She should immediately tender a public apology to the Ashram and denounce these rogues she and her husband are linked to. If she doesn’t do this, it means that she has vested interests in attacking the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. She can stop pretending to be a devotee and come out openly.

  4. Lucky Leaks permalink

The more one analyzes, the more one finds that Jyoti Mirdha has been actively involved in anti-Ashram activities alongside Sraddhalu, Deshpande and company. Her name figures right on top and very prominently on the petition that was supposedly signed by some 60+ members of parliament. This shows that she was the one who printed this form and went around getting signatures from the others.
Significantly, a large proportion of the MPs who signed that petition and whose names can be deciphered are MPs from Rajasthan, the same state from which she has been elected and to which she belongs, and are also all from the same political party. There is no doubt Jyoti Mirdha has played an active role in trying to politicize Ashram’s internal affairs and drag parliamentarians in this affair.

  5. anon permalink

Many of the dots have got joined.

But most importantly anyone can also find the MONEY TRAIL…

Jyoti Mirdha has been directly financing the Savitri Foundation giving it a whopping Rs. 24.4 LAKHS!

    See: http://myneta.info/ls2014/candidate.php?candidate_id=3453
Under ‘Details of movable assets’ item no. ‘v’, Personal loans/advance given.

It is no wonder that Deshpande has always got that perverse grin on his face and has the resources to keep publishing his anti-Ashram propaganda under the guise of some spiritual exercise that bears the name of a foundation that misuses Sri Aurobindo works.

It is no wonder that the Prasad sisters can hire the country’s top law firm.

It is no wonder that Sraddhalu and company have all the resources to keep filing case upon case against the Ashram, hiring conference halls, printing pamphlets and posters, etc., etc.

But the real wonder is why should Jyoti Mirdha and Narendra Gehlaut sponsor those who wish to break the Ashram apart?

    • Lucky Leaks permalink

Who really knows why Narendra Gehlaut & Jyoti Mirdha sponsor those who wish to break the Ashram apart.

But in an article by Sri T. N. Chaturvedi that appeared in the August 2012 issue of the Hindi Monthly Magazine Sahitya Amrit, also reproduced in this website (http://auroleaks.wordpress.com/2012/08/08/t-n-chaturvedi-the-uncalled-for-controversy-about-the-new-biography-of-sri-aurobindo/), he makes the following statement:

“It has come to light that behind this above-mentioned movement is the hand of developers who sent to some MPs a distorted version of this affair. Their game-plan is to install their puppets as Trustees, the puppets being these people who pretend to be followers of Sri Aurobindo and proclaim themselves to the world as the chosen interpreters of his writings, so that they can lease out the Ashram lands and each pursue their vested interests. This does not seem to be an affair about Sri Aurobindo’s being insulted but a stratagem to capture real estate.”

Two years ago, one would have thought that Sri T. N. Chaturvedi was exaggerating. Some of us did think so. But with all the information that is now tumbling out in front of us all we can see that a senior statesman like Sri T. N. Chaturvedi would not have made such statements if he wasn’t basing himself on reliable information.

Let us then try to guess… Which real estate company comes to mind with the name of Narendra Gehlaut?

    • Rajeev permalink

The sum of Rs, 24.4 lacs that has been ‘loaned’ to the Savitri Foundation for the use of Deshpande’s activities is only the amount that has been officially declared by Jyoti Mirdha and her husband Narendra Gehlaut. But everyone knows that this is merely the tip of the iceberg. The amount of money that is being dished out must in reality be much larger. Properties worth Crores of rupees have been bought in and are being used to support Deshpande and his gang’s anti-Ashram activities. Airplane tickets are being paid for, taxi bills, entertainment and what not is all being sponsored by someone who has deep pockets. There is a big amount of money flowing. From where it is coming and for what it is being used is anybody’s guess.

  6. Debashish permalink

The Savitri Foundation that is sponsored by Narendra Gehlaut and Jyoti Mirdha are actively engaged in financing and spreading anti-Ashram propaganda. Take the instance of RY Deshpande’s book titled “Man-handling of Savitri” published by the Savitri Foundation.

This book is a compilation of distortions, delivered from the sick and delusional mind of RY Deshpande. The only purpose for publishing such a book is to promote anti-Ashram propaganda.

Significantly, Narendra Gehlaut plays an active part not only by financing such a venture, but he even provides his ‘insights’ into the affairs pertaining to the editing of Savitri. His ‘insights’ which resonate with RY Deshpande’s can be found in the last paragraph of the following webpage:
    http://tiny.cc/Narendra_Gehlaut

If anything, Narendra Gehlaut’s insights reveal how and why he could be so easily influenced by someone as illogical and personally motivated as RY Deshpande.
